Oxfam is seeking to fill the position of Public Health Engineer. The Public Health Engineer will provide technical leadership in research, development and implementation of innovative water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) solutions that reduce risk of morbidity and mortality due to WASH related diseases. Oxfam is a global movement of millions of people who share the belief that in a world rich in resources, poverty is not inevitable.

Responsibilities

• Improve water infrastructure, water quality at source and household levels
• Rehabilitate and construct sanitation infrastructure
• Build capacity of local officials on water point operation and maintenance
• Facilitate the participation of beneficiaries in the design and implementation of all technological innovations
• Work together with the project team to prepare and share evidence for influencing policy makers
• Advocate for wider adoption of successful models

Requirements

• University degree in Civil, Environmental or Agricultural Engineering or related field (essential)
• Postgraduate qualifications in a related technical field (desirable)
• Five years of project management/ coordination experience in water and sanitation, minimum
• Experience working in challenging, economically deprived environments where land and water resources are communally owned
• Experience integrating engineering/ environmental protection measures with socio-economic considerations
• Ability to engage proactively with project communities to ensure their full participation, with an emphasis on ensuring the participation of women in the design, implementation and management of activities
• Strong management, project planning, organisational, interpersonal, and communication skills
• Competence in engineering drawings, manually produced or using AutoCad
• Familiarity with GPS/ GIS, MS Office and database management software
• Strong ability to communicate effectively and fluent in spoken and written Ndebele (essential)
• English and Shona, spoken and written
