Mercy Corps is seeking to fill the position of Country Director.

Responsibilities

  • Formulate, plan and communicate a clear vision of present and future programme goals and strategies to team members and stakeholders that translate into concrete programmes and work plans
  • Lead the country strategy realisation and planning process and provide strategic updates, aligning current and new funding opportunities to Mercy Corps’ global pathway to possibility
  • Set direction by prioritising and organising actions and resources to achieve programme and agency objectives
  • Engage the agency’s technical support teams collaboratively to ensure high-impact programming that aligns with Mercy Corps’ key technical areas
  • Identify and secure new country and project funding opportunities that build on Mercy Corps’ existing expertise and integrate new technical areas to multiply impact
  • Work with other INGOs, national and global CSO partners and government when possible to develop new solutions to address the immediate humanitarian crisis in the country and lay the foundations for sustainable change

Requirements

  • Degree or equivalent in relevant field required (master’s degree preferred)
  • Seven years, minimum, of field experience in international relief and development programmes, including demonstrable success in managing (large, complex, transitional) development programmes
  • Five years of senior-level leadership, capacity building and field management experience
  • Two years, minimum, of experience in and capacity to respond to emergency and disaster response as appropriate
  • Demonstrated ability to work across humanitarian, development and peacebuilding sectors to promote sustainable outcomes
  • Demonstrated success working effectively and respectfully with host country government, private sector, INGO, NGO partners and other stakeholders in complex environments
  • Demonstrated experience and leadership within humanitarian coordination structures
  • Internationally recognised qualification in project or programme management or a commitment to obtain the qualification in the early months of work
  • Proven skills in financial and grants management
  • Successful and proven negotiation, communication and organisation skills
  • Excellent oral and written French and English skills
  • Ability to work effectively with an ethnically diverse team in a sensitive environment
  • Work experience in Central African Republic and in insecure environments is highly preferred
