Malala Fund has opened applications for the post of Programme Officer.
Registered as a public charity in the United Kingdom (UK) and the United States (U.S.), Malala Fund is working toward a world where all girls can learn for 12 years and lead without fear.
Responsibilities
- Serve as Malala Fund liaison with grantees and partners and, where appropriate, represent Malala Fund
- Cultivate an informal national network of relevant stakeholders able to connect Malala Fund with important CBO and NGO work
- Identify competitive grantee and partner candidates that help Malala Fund to realise its country strategy
- Onboard education champions, and help them to understand roles, responsibilities, opportunities and ways to contribute to Malala Fund’s work
- Lead/facilitate regular ECN calls and meetings, work with advocacy manager to convene advocacy specific meetings
- Working with partners, plan and design relevant events and media engagements
- Work with advocacy manager to support ECN or girls’ programme partner participation at global events, and coordinate their attendance at relevant local and national events
- Support the applied learning officer to coordinate local and national experts for applied learning delivery
- Assist grantee candidates to develop grant proposals that support Malala Fund strategic objectives
- Lead grant design discussions with candidates, build strategic coherence within grant design, conduct due diligence of new partners and advance proposals for new funding
- Monitor work plans for partners, support partners to implement work effectively, and propose and see through corrective actions to improve project efficiency and impact
- Lead review of grantee reports, ensure accurate and timely reporting, and coordinate due diligence with the global grants team
- Liaise regularly with grantees to monitor and report on activities and associated risks, including conducting periodic site visits
- Support and promote grantee and partner safeguarding practices in consultation with global Malala Fund staff
- Work with Malala Fund MEL and communications teams to capture and make available information about grantee work
- Uphold the values of Malala Fund
- Actively contribute to making Malala Fund a diverse and equitable workplace through inclusive practice and openness to different perspectives, cultures and ideas
- Maintain behaviour and conduct that uphold the highest standards for safeguarding, professionally and personally

Requirements
- Significant work experience with INGOs, donor-funded programmes in education, community development, and/or gender, with understanding of civil society organisations (CSOs) and/or policy work inside the government or private sector
- Experience identifying potential grantees, supporting the development of project proposals and assessing proposals
- Substantial experience in monitoring implementation of grants, and supporting effective reporting and compliance to all required policies and laws
- Experience developing and implementing influencing strategies using a wide range of tactics and approaches including facilitation skills, relationship management with stakeholders
- Ability to relate with individuals from a variety of cultural backgrounds across different time zones; and high degree of diplomacy
- Experience with child protection best practices or safeguarding (desirable)
- Ability to travel periodically within Nigeria and globally
- Strong work ethic, organisational skills and the ability to be self-directed
- Solid judgment and problem-solving skills with proven attention to detail, accuracy, and quality
- Fluency in written and spoken English
- Passionate professional with a commitment to change the poor state of education provision in the country

- Practical field/project operation experience ideally in diverse geographical locations and a demonstrated experience of working with diverse partners
- Awareness of the range of issues and projects in the education/girls’ rights sector and an understanding of how they work in the private sector, CSOs and government settings
