Responsibilities

  • Provide technical assistance and strategic guidance in planning and implementing donor priorities for gender equality, gender mainstreaming, gender integration, social inclusion, and GBV strategies on the MCGL programme
  • Guide gender/GBV reporting processes, consolidate programme reports and promote learning and knowledge sharing of best practices and lessons learnt in gender programming
  • Work with strategic information teams to analyse and report on indicators measuring the outcomes and impact of interventions looking at gender dynamics and gender-based violence in MCGL for improved intervention quality
  • Support improved quality of gender/GBV clinical and referral services implementation, and system strengthening based on evidence-based and international best practices across implementing states and programmes
  • Work with MCGL project teams to strengthen gender/GBV components of training, job aids, gender indicators, data collection tools and reporting tools at all levels
  • Conduct periodic reviews and strengthening of programme gender/GBV systems
  • Serve alongside other gender team members as a primary GBV point of contact (POC) and a technical thought leader on bringing evidence-based and best practices to GBV prevention, identification and response programming to MCGL project
  • Review the MCGL portfolio and identify opportunities for the integration of GBV, working closely with the GBV team members on GBV integration activities
  • Provide GBV technical review of and assistance with input on key technical and non-technical documents
  • Support the MCGL technical team on GBV-related inputs into the annual work plan
  • Work with MCGL gender/GBV POC to support implementation, monitor progress, and ensure compliance to strategies, programmes and activities are in line with MCGL mandate
  • Support and contribute to the gender communities of practice within Jhpiego and the field
  • Serve as a point person for GBV-related queries and reporting requirements, including coordinating responses with the sector-specific technical leads on talking points, taskers, briefings, requests for information, etc
  • Provide technical assistance to MCGL and local partners remotely
  • Conduct frequent virtual interphase through collaborative software

Requirements

  • Advanced degree in Development and Gender Studies, Women Studies, Human Rights, Communication, Public Health, International Health, International Development or a related field
  • Eight years, minimum, of experience in development
  • Understanding of the Nigerian social and political context and developments in the area of gender equality mainstreaming, women empowerment and GBV programming
  • Strong understanding of empowerment and GBV prevention and response frameworks
  • Excellent diplomacy skills and a proven ability to establish and sustain interpersonal and professional relationships with government stakeholders and representatives from other key stakeholders such as NGOs, the private sector and donors
  • Demonstrated outstanding leadership, strategic thinking, organisational, supervisory and team-building skills
  • Ability to multi-task and proven knowledge and skills in the use of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, presentation skills and fluency in English language
  • Excellent group facilitation and communication skills
  • Experience in multi-stakeholder consultation, and strategic planning
  • Strong knowledge of gender and global development issues, preferably with understanding of USAID and PEPFAR’s approach to gender equality and GBV
  • Excellent group facilitation, multi-stakeholder consultation, and strategic planning skills
  • Strong writing skills, both for technical and programme reports
  • Strong interpersonal skills, and ability to work well in cross-cultural teams and under tight deadlines
  • Good strategic and analytical thinking and ability to interpret public health and epidemiological data
  • Personal commitment to gender equality and social inclusion
  • Ability to undertake frequent travels
