The Family Health International (FHI 360) is seeking to fill the role of Laboratory Specialist.

FHI 360 delivers sustainable, high-quality, comprehensive HIV/AIDS prevention, treatment, care and support services.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical assistance to Uganda Sustainable National Health Laboratory Systems (UNHLS) laboratories
  • Assist in laboratory strengthening and clinical laboratory functions and services
  • Assist with the preparation and delivery of laboratory training and training-related services
  • In close collaboration with laboratory management, support the follow-up of needed corrective and preventive actions, particularly in relation to HIV and HIV-related diagnostic services
  • Initiate SLMTA, SLIPTA, LCQI, RTCQI and other QMS-related activities upon request to build UNHLS laboratory network capacity
  • Provide TA support for implementation of EQA/PT programme for clinical laboratories for HIV-related diagnostics
  • Support laboratory biosafety and biosecurity initiatives work and help to ensure safe working practices
  • In close collaboration with the technical laboratory lead, and the national and regional laboratory management, assist with follow-up of needed corrective and preventive actions
  • Assist with providing technical assistance to establish new diagnostics as they become available

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences or Biological Science, or a related field
  • Five years, minimum, of related work experience within a clinical or research laboratory
  • Supervisory experience (preferred)
  • Ability to provide laboratory technical assistance and capacity building services and perform quality assurance assessments against accepted national and international standards and regulations
  • Demonstrated creative problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated excellent written and spoken communication skills, including experience in training and mentoring staff
  • Ability to travel within Uganda for up to 60 percent of time
  • Strong written and spoken presentation skills in English
