Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) is seeking applications from eligible applicants for the post of Senior Forestry Officer.

FAO is a specialised agency of the United Nations that leads international efforts to defeat hunger.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, manage, or lead highly specialised or multi-disciplinary teams, and lead, coordinate, and/or participates in regional committees, project teams, and working groups
  • Analyse global and country-specific requirements and relevant technical issues to provide critical input into the FAO strategic framework, programme of work, work plans and the supporting budgets and/or resourcing strategies
  • Implement and monitor programmes of work involving the development of the approach, evidence-based strategies, and related tools, methodologies and the supporting system/database, monitoring and reporting frameworks
  • Conduct, design and oversee research and analysis activities to support the development of technical standards, international instruments, innovation, technical reports, publications and/or ongoing programme development as well as the provision of technical and/or policy advisory services
  • Provide technical and policy advice to members to decentralised Offices in the development and implementation of their programmes
  • Lead and/or collaborate in, provide technical backstopping to, and ensure the quality/effectiveness of capacity development and knowledge sharing activities among members
  • Represent the organisation at international meetings and conferences
  • Identify and implement strategic partnerships, and advocate best practices and increased policy dialogue
  • Develop and negotiate effective working relationships/consensus and agreements with international and national stakeholders
  • Lead and/or participate in resource mobilisation activities in accordance with the FAO corporate strategy

Requirements

  • Advanced university degree in Forest Resources Management or a related field
  • Ten years of relevant experience in forest resources management, forest conservation management, or a related field
  • Working knowledge of English and limited knowledge of another official FAO language (French, Spanish, Russian, Arabic or Chinese)
