Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) is seeking to fill the role of Payment for Ecosystem Services (PES) and Revenue Sharing Mechanisms (RSM) Specialist.

FAO is the UN agency that leads international efforts against hunger.

Responsibilities

  • Support the inclusion of PES/improved RSM in the new forest law and its regulation
  • Organise ad hoc meetings at national, provincial and district levels on PES/RSM improvement
  • Organise visits with key partners to relevant field sites for PES/improved RSM in Mozambique or abroad, if relevant
  • Hold individual meetings with sector funds other than forestry and key institutions not interviewed yet to understand current and potential RSM and to foster inter-sectorial dialogue
  • Produce a document on RSM, PES or related mechanisms that exist in Mozambique
  • Provide support to the ongoing discussions with forestry sector institutions on national inter-sectorial PES mechanism and produce the document of procedures for the establishment of national inter-sectorial PES mechanism
  • Conduct meetings and presentations with forestry and other sector funds interested in adopting PES rules to harmonise the RSM approaches and develop joint inter-sectoral legal orientations to introduce PES, as defined in the document of procedures
  • Support the organisation of tests for improved RSM/PES mechanisms in beneficiary communities to inform discussions, if relevant

Requirements

  • University degree in Forestry, Environment, Natural Resource Economics, or a closely related field
  • Four years, minimum, of relevant experience in PES mechanisms
  • Working knowledge of English, French or Spanish and limited knowledge of Arabic, Chinese or Russian
