Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) is seeking to fill the role of Livestock Business Management Specialist.
FAO is a specialised agency of the United Nations that leads international efforts to defeat hunger.
Responsibilities
- Provide expert advice on all livestock business development matters, regulations and SOPs to the project team for smooth project implementation
- Provide technical backup on business management concepts to the targeted business units under SAFE such as the animal health management centres and vaccine production unit
- Participate in the setting up of coordination platforms such as the livestock business forum (LBF) and animal production and health and food safety under the one health concept
- Lead the development of specifications for livestock equipment, infrastructure, accessories and services on vaccine production, distribution and sales
- Provide technical analyses of the business units under public private partnerships (PPP) and advise the partners accordingly
- Participate in the development and testing of the national livestock identification and traceability systems (LITS)
- Collaborate and build healthy synergies between the farmers associations and public and private sectors for the establishment of sustainable PPP with specific reference to establishment of quality payment schemes in selected livestock value chains
- Work closely with the animal health specialist, policy specialist and the food safety specialist to guide the processes of livestock and animal health related policies, strategies and regulations for the benefit of livestock enterprises
- Contribute to the processes of review of the curriculum for training veterinary technical field staff and the environmental and port health field technical staff
Requirements
- Degree in Business Management or a related field
- Advanced degree in Animal Science is a distinct advantage
- Ten years, minimum, of experience in the livestock production sector, animal health, extension and/or research
- Previous similar work on project/programme working with government, NGOs, UN and private sector
- Good interpersonal relationships and strong personality
- Excellent English, communication, facilitation and computer skills
- Nationality of Zimbabwe
