Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) is seeking applications from eligible applicants for the post of Economist (Trade).

FAO is a specialised agency of the United Nations that leads international efforts to defeat hunger.

Responsibilities

  • Research and analyse agricultural, economic, trade, market, social, environmental, nutrition/food composition and/or gender related data, statistics and information to provide technical, statistical and/or policy related information and analysis to support the delivery of economic and social development programmes work, products, projects, publications and services
  • Produce a variety of technical reports and input for technical documents, departmental publications and/or web pages
  • Provide technical, statistical, and/or analytical services on various studies, projects, and/or assessments
  • Participate in the development of improved/updated technical, statistical and/or analytical tools, methodologies, systems, databases, and/or key social/economic/environmental/nutritional and/or early warning indicators, etc
  • Work with multi-disciplinary teams, collaborate with other departments and agencies on work groups and committees and promote best practices
  • Collaborate in capacity development activities involving the planning and organising of training workshops, seminars, and major meetings and the preparation of related information, materials, on-line tools and information kits
  • Promote knowledge sharing and best practices at international meetings and conferences and influence partners in stakeholder consultations
  • Participate in resource mobilisation activities

Requirements

  • Advanced university degree in Economics, Agricultural Economics or a related field
  • Five years, minimum, of experience in trade policy and quantitative economic analysis of agricultural markets, trade and policies and/or analysis of trade and markets
  • Work experience in more than one location or area of work, particularly in field positions is desirable
  • Experience in agricultural trade analysis and policies
  • Experience in quantitative analysis of agricultural commodity markets and trade policy, and experience in preparing technical and policy reports
  • Ability to analyse complex trade issues, including links with food security and nutrition, sustainable development, employment and gender
  • Experience in developing, organising and servicing meetings, workshops and training courses, including e-learning courses
  • Working knowledge of English and limited knowledge of another FAO official language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish)
