Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) is seeking applications from eligible applicants for the post of District Coordinator.

FAO is a specialised agency of the United Nations that leads international efforts to defeat hunger.

Responsibilities

  • Lead specific technical work and lead or coordinate FAO’s other field obligations/initiatives
  • Be responsible for the day-to-day management of the FAO projects in the respective field office
  • Coordinate the planning, implementation and supervision of activities to ensure efficient provision of both administrative and technical support services at district level
  • Foster strategic coherence of FAO’s interventions and services at district
  • Represent FAO in all forums at district level within the mandate of the organisation
  • Actively participate in all initiatives together with the district technical personnel (where available)
  • Proactively create awareness amongst district stakeholders on FAO’s strategic priorities (CPF), programmes and other relevant FAO interests (in relation to the SDG, UNSDCF, MGDS, NAIP)
  • Provide on-the-job support to government counterparts, particularly to DNCC, district health office (DHO) and district agriculture development office (DADO) staff
  • Ensure sound dissemination and programmatic use of project-related information, harnessing the tools provided by FAO Malawi
  • Facilitate the exchange of information between agriculture SMS, agriculture extension, nutrition extension government teams at district level and with other implementing partners
  • Produce monthly, quarterly and annual reports as per FAO requirements

Requirements

  • Advanced university degree in Agricultural Economics, Agriculture (including Forestry and Fisheries), Veterinary Sciences/Animal Production, Human Nutrition; Natural Resources Management or a related field
  • Seven years, minimum, of work experience in development, management and monitoring of projects and programmes in agriculture, food security, nutrition-sensitive agriculture and/or rural development
  • Working knowledge (level C) of English and limited knowledge (level B) of one of the other FAO languages
  • National of Malawi
