Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) is seeking applications from eligible applicants for the post of Communication Officer.
The FAO is a specialised agency of the United Nations that leads international efforts to defeat hunger.
Responsibilities
- Research and analyse technical, social, economic, environmental, institutional, and technology related information, data and statistics and/or related policy issues to support internal and/or external communication
- Produce a variety of information and reports as well as input for communication-related documents and web pages
- Collaborate in the development of improved/updated tools, systems, processes, and databases
- Participate on multidisciplinary teams, and/or leads working groups/teams
- Collaborate with other departments and agencies on work groups and committees and promote best practices
- Promote knowledge sharing and best practices at international meetings and conferences and influence partners in stakeholder consultations
- Develop and implement effective communications, outreach, branding and other mechanisms and tools to enhance the visibility of the relation between FAO and its host country
- Participate in the planning, development and implementation of communication and advocacy campaigns at national level
- Collaborate with partners, including sister agencies to develop ways to implement campaigns system-wide and to incorporate the campaign message and themes into all relevant events and products
- Contribute to drafting relevant press releases, newsletters, periodicals, reports and publications
- Build and/or reinforce information networks at the national level
- Participate in the production of materials for print/electronic/voice/visual media
Requirements
- Degree in Communications, Journalism, Political Science or a related field
- Five years of relevant experience in communications, public information, journalism, and international relations
- Work experience in more than one location or area of work, particularly in field positions {desirable)
- Experience in communication services for prominent organisations, particularly at the international level, including substantive experience in journalism
- Experience in drafting high-quality written materials for a wide variety of audiences
- Understanding of FAO policies and programmes is considered a strong asset
- Knowledge of English and limited knowledge of another FAO official language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish)
