Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is seeking to fill the role of Protection Team Leader.
DRC provides direct assistance to conflict-affected populations – refugees, internally displaced people (IDPs) and host communities in conflict areas.
Responsibilities
- Lead and regularly update context and protection risk analysis and diversity mapping through conducting joint protection risk and gender analysis assessments with WFP
- Develop/create and review relevant assessment tools for protection monitoring assessments
- Analyse protection data and generate protection monitoring reports
- Monitor and communicate to relevant managers any changes in the protection environment within food assistance programmes
- Coordinate monthly sector meetings with relevant protection partners
- Ensure case management procedures are followed
- Map/develop and communicate protection (including gender-based violence and child protection) referral pathways to support WFP food-related activities
- Ensure management of individual cases and appropriate documentation and filling
- Ensure inclusion of the most vulnerable and at-risk categories throughout the project cycle
- Contribute to the design and implementation of approaches related to information provision, community consultation, feedback and complaints mechanisms
- Ensure CFM systems are in place and in use and data is shared with DRC and WFP
- Ensure resolving and sorting of complaints and follow-up and intervention of protection cases
- Support and implement good practice in data protection and privacy
- Support cooperating partners to integrate protection in assessments, monitoring, evaluation, and reporting tools
- Translate protection mainstreaming into concrete, practical actions
- Develop and implement a capacity building action plan on protection, inclusion, and community engagement within the context of food programming
- Provide training/capacity building to duty bearers, international and local NGOs and IDP communities on protection-related issues
- Represent DRC-WFP programming at interagency forums on protection
- Attend field/state level coordination forums
- Ensure monthly reporting on protection and gender mainstreaming activities
- Ensure monthly reporting on complaints and feedback mechanisms with a disaggregation on number of complaints received
- Design/review/develop protection risk and protection monitoring tools and supervise assessment activities
- Analyse data and populate reports to be shared with protection manager and coordinator for review
- Support WFP with assessments on gender, protection, AAP in food programming
- Provide staff with proper induction on their expected roles and responsibilities
- Conduct performance management to direct reports
- Support staff with on-the-job training on all aspects of protection in food programming
Requirements
- Five years, minimum, of work experience in a humanitarian organisation/with displacement affected populations or a significant experience as a DRC protection social or outreach worker
- Bachelor’s degree in Law, Psychology, Social Work, Social Sciences, Counselling, Education, Human Rights, Development Studies, or a relevant discipline
- Knowledge of protection norms, principles, and activities
- Excellent communication skills (speaking and writing)
- Professional fluency in English and Hausa
- Ability and willingness to maintain regular presence at project sites (remote/field sites) and to work during irregular working hours and in insecure environments
- Strong interpersonal communication and negotiation skills
