Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is seeking to fill the role of Livelihoods Assistant, Agriculture.

DRC provides direct assistance to conflict-affected populations including refugees and internally displaced persons (IDPs).

Responsibilities

  • Support in conducting needs assessments and analysis of current agricultural activities
  • Undertake beneficiary identification, registration and selection for the agricultural activities
  • Train and advise farmers on matters related to vegetable production
  • Plan and manage agricultural demonstration plots
  • Implement a farm record management system and provide timely updates on progress status
  • Support farmers on product marketing and selling of the produce to customers
  • Report progress against workplans on a weekly, monthly and quarterly basis
  • Build the capacity of farmers on post-harvest processing, including storage and packaging of farm produce
  • Conduct in-service training for refugee-incentive staff
  • Facilitate the distribution of farm tools
  • Take part in budget monitoring and tracking of expenditure on agricultural activities
  • Prepare and apply appropriate tools to be used for monitoring and reporting on beneficiaries’ progress
  • Document success stories and project milestones as well as best practices
  • Supervise the refugee community workers

Requirements

  • Degree in Agriculture, Agricultural Economics, or a related field
  • Two years, minimum, of experience in setting up and implementing livelihoods or agriculture projects, preferably with an NGO in a refugee/IDP setting
  • Good facilitation skills especially in vegetable production
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Working knowledge of MS Office and other relevant computer applications
  • Understanding of business and development issues including group savings and loan approaches
  • Ability to adapt to changing programme priorities and emergency priorities that may arise
  • Strong self-starter with ability to take initiative
  • Good planning and organisational skills coupled with problem-solving capabilities
  • Hands-on community mobilisation skills
  • Nationality of Kenya
  • Knowledge of local language will be a plus
  • Knowledge of English language and Kiswahili
