Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is seeking to fill the position of Head of Protection Department.

DRC fulfills its mandate by providing direct assistance to conflict-affected populations including refugees and internally displaced persons (IDPs).

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with relevant internal and external technical experts on protection issues
  • Represent DRC at relevant cluster meetings and ensure a good representation and reputation of protection at all levels
  • Actively participate in internal programme coordination meetings and coordinate with sector counterparts during the implementation of jointly funded projects
  • Actively coordinate with the country team at the coordination and base level
  • Actively ensure and facilitate regular meetings/training sessions on protection with the personnel concerned
  • Prepare evidence-based protection analyses and advocacy documents for relevant external stakeholders
  • Update the country protection strategy annually and ensure quality monitoring of its implementation
  • Ensure timely protection analysis
  • Ensure the strategic integration of protection activities with other DRC sectors
  • Conduct protection assessments to assess new programming needs and opportunities
  • Provide high-quality technical overview of protection programmes
  • Collaborate closely with all relevant departments on DRC’s code of conduct and protection against sexual exploitation and abuse (PEAS) policy
  • Ensure the development of proposals for protection activities in coordination with programme managers and the grants department
  • Develop tools and training modules to guarantee the quality of projects and facilitate implementation

Requirements

  • Five years, minimum, of relevant experience with an INGO and/or a United Nations agency
  • Three years, minimum, of experience in team management
  • Proven skills in project planning and project proposal development
  • Experience in project management, including financial and HR management
  • In-depth knowledge and experience in applying key donor guidelines
  • Experience working with national partners, local/government authorities and United Nations organisations
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and excellent command of report writing
  • Excellent computer skills
  • Excellent command of French (written and oral) and professional proficiency in English
