ActionAid is seeking to fill the position of Climate Justice Advisor.
ActionAid is an anti-poverty agency that prioritises work with people living in poverty and exclusion, promoting values and commitment in civil society, institutions, and governments with the aim of achieving structural changes in order to eradicate injustices and poverty in the world.
Responsibilities
- Mentor, coach and support the ActionAid Nigeria and ActionAid Liberia SPA II team Youth Coordinators on climate justice advocacy and movement building
- Support youth movements at national and sub-national levels to network and collaborate by reaching out/ connecting on climate justice and resilience building
- Support key national movements, networks, and alliances in Liberia and Nigeria with networking and organising tools
- Support the regional youth networks to identify key youth SDGs policy issues that can be taken at regional level
- Support ActionAid Nigeria and Liberia SPA II team and local partners on climate justice programming
- Support youth teams in Nigeria and Liberia to develop robust climate justice advocacy tools including position papers and policy briefs for dissemination
- Provide capacity building for young people and project partners on climate resilience building and alternatives
- Support in-country and cross-country learning processes
- Participate in professional learning networks, including the Advisor network
- Provide thematic sparing for curriculum developments
- Support TCDC-led thematic workshops
- Participate in and support relevant cross-country working groups
- Where relevant, the Advisor will play a facilitating role for inspirators in-country, hold introduction meetings with inspirators, coordinate learning meetings and support relational linkages
- Provide policy, technical and operational advice, and support on advancing sustainable development within climate-changing contexts.
- Support national actors working in the sector and contribute to growing discussions around the new way of working to promote a sustainable environment and livelihood
- Establish and maintain contacts with relevant government officials, UN agencies, non-governmental organisations, diplomatic missions, media, etc.
- Ensures appropriate mechanisms to facilitate collaboration and exchange of information that would further enhance SPA II work in both Nigeria and Liberia
- Actively take part in the overall policy, programme, procedure and strategy development of AAN in general
Requirements
- Master’s Degree in Social Sciences or Arts/Humanities
- Membership of relevant professional institutes is desirable
- At least five years’ experience in development, climate justice advocacy and alternatives
- Proven experience in campaigning and advocacy engagement with government agencies
- Experience in analysing global development issues including climate change, food security, corporate abuse ( essential)
- Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment, understanding the organisational hierarchy, patience, flexible and approachable
- Fundraising and resource mobilisation experience
- Experience working with communities
- Politically and culturally sensitive
- Diplomatic and respectful
- Self-starter and innovator
- Multi-tasking skills
