Apply: 2020 Civic Hive Media Fellowship

Deadline: 31 March, 2020

Civic Hive is BudgIT’s civic innovation and cultural centre, whose mandate is to strengthen civic innovation in Nigeria, support existing nonprofits in design and the use of technology, raise new civic-technology leaders and also provide co-working space to people with ideas that can transform Nigeria.

The BudgIT Media Fellowship programme began in the year 2017, when it featured journalists who were focused on writing human-angle stories that led advocacy on topics like budget access, project tracking, use of extractive revenues, social justice, anticorruption, open governments, and transparency. BudgIT’s platform helped to amplify the voices of those journalists and backed their stories up with data.

This year, the Civic Hive Media Fellowship programme will be more focused on stories of gender inequality, health, people with special needs, agriculture, education, social investment programmes, civic issues and the extractive industry. BudgIT is looking for stories that will advance and bring attention to transparency, accountability, and civic engagement in these thematic sectors.

Benefits

  • BudgIT will provide a monthly stipend of N150,000
  • BudgIT will also host engagement rounds with key stakeholders for fellows, to expose fellows’ ideas to sound feedback and create the potential for support
  • BudgIT will provide training on centring people in stories, storytelling for journalists, making sense of data, using data visualisation tools and multimedia storytelling

Eligibility

Applicants are ideally full-time writers, print or broadcast journalists, filmmakers, bloggers or other media makers with well-established records of publication, dissemination or broadcast in local, regional or national markets, or among targeted audiences or constituencies.
