The Amity Foundation (AM) and other institutes held a Covid-19 outbreak prevention communication meeting of China and South Africa. With over 100 persons from South Africa, Zimbabwe, Swaziland and other countries in attendance, the meeting was a platform to share experiences of prevention and control of the Covid-19 pandemic, especially the health management of mothers and infants.
The Chairman of the South African National Civil Organisation (SANCO), Richard Mdakene, stated in his speech, ‘The [Covid-19] pandemic was an unprecedented challenge for all humanity. During the fight against the pandemic, China and Africa need more unity and mutual support than ever before. With the spread of the pandemic in Africa, China has provided many batches of anti-pandemic material assistance and much valuable experience, which [have] played an important role in combating the pandemic in South Africa’.
During the meeting, customers from the Amity Printing Company (APC) and Ethiopian international students asked questions to which the participating professional doctors gave detailed and specific answers. The General Secretary of the AFC Women Federation, Matuba, noted, ‘Participating in the online anti-pandemic communication [meeting], I learned a lot about China’s useful anti-pandemic experience. This form of communication is also very practical, flexible, and effective, and I would like to express my deep gratitude to China for organising a knowledge communication meeting on a special day such as Mother‘s Day to prevent [Covid-19] from infecting women and children’.
The Director of the International Department of SANCO, Mr Lucas, thanked China for the online anti-pandemic communication. He stated, ‘South African Citizens Organisation…launched an anti-pandemic front in the community to help ordinary people understand pandemic prevention and control knowledge and enhance awareness of anti-pandemic measures’.
He added that China’s national defence against the pandemic has been achieved successfully, especially the grassroots community that has a lot of effective experience in anti-pandemic measures, which is very helpful to South Africa. ‘Just as Mdakane, chairman of [SANCO], said, we must strengthen mutual cooperation and jointly fight the pandemic’.
